5 questions a video production company will ask you

Choosing a Video Partner

So, you want to make a video...

When you start the process of talking to a video production company, they should have a LOT of questions! You're investing a lot in this content, and we want to make sure you get bang for your buck! In order to ensure that we're creating content that will resonate with your audience and inspire action, we need to know a lot about your goals. That's why, if you're looking for video production in Kitchener, or anywhere else for that matter, our team at Oak + Rumble is here to help.

Here are five questions that we ask all of our clients at the beginning of every project.

1. What's the purpose of the video?

This is the big one! What are your goals? Will the video be played at a conference or an event? Is it primarily for social media? Will it explain product details on a landing page? Understanding how your video will be viewed will help us make great decisions about things like sound design, frame rates, and calls to action.

2. Who's the target audience?

Investors, consumers, businesses, students, experts, cats, dogs? Maybe not the last two, but it's important to determine who the video will need to reach. For example, you may have a technologically advanced product that you would like a non-tech-savvy consumer to understand, or perhaps that same technologically advanced product is being showcased for experts in the field. The content shifts to suit the audience. The average consumer may be more receptive to an impact-focused video while the experts could benefit from a complex content video discussing the science behind the tech.

3. How do you want people to feel?

Happy, sad, exciting, inspirational, motivational… what feelings inspire your audience to action? It's important for us to know how you want the audience to leave the video feeling. Inspiration might inspire your audience to buy your product, or shop/think a certain way. Setting the right tone emphasizes the message you’re conveying.

4. What's the call to action?

What do we want people to do next? Share the video on Facebook? Click through to your website? Fill out a contact form? CTAs are more than just a line of text at the end of your video. It's important to know how we're going to measure the success of your content.

5. What are our constraints?

I know, I know, no one wants to talk about money. But understanding your budget will help us make good recommendations about how we can stretch it! Wondering how much video costs? Check out some of our samples, where we walk through the budget factors.

Other constraints could be a launch date or project deadline. We love timelines! Let us know any important dates, and we'll provide a full project schedule so you know what to expect.

BONUS QUESTION: Do you have any examples?

We’ve all seen that video go viral on YouTube! Providing video example links (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) helps you share your expectations visually with the video production agency, and it's a great step in the process. If you've seen a commercial that you love, share it with us and let us know why you found it so compelling!
